GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Design and development of new products, features and/or systems that integrates Advanced Lighting Technology into current and future OEM programs to ensure successful launches.
• Investigate, develop and prototype new lighting concepts, processes and applications that will raise the company’s competitive **ition with the intent of commercializing the technology
• Undertake engineering studies of new optical technologies applicable to automotive.
• Research through paper, internet, seminars or any practical means
• Determine regulatory framework applicable
• Educate co-workers on developed technologies to improve the team capability.
• Oversee or perform design work needed to build operational prototypes
• Develop and implement best practices and lessons learned,
• Identify, budget, and procure required test equipment
• Efficiently design optical solutions with accurate performance and lit appearance simulated.
• Benchmarks cutting edge optical simulation software
• Incorporates industry regulations into sub-systems and full vehicle systems relative to development projects.
• Interfaces with Material Suppliers to establish advanced material(s) direction for the design and development of current and future products.
• Sketches concept ideas in order to facilitate and direct designers and support engineers on new product developments.
• Proficient in ASAP, Lucidshape, LightTools, Speos-Optis or other Lighting Optical development software
• Leads and Mentors Junior Advanced Optical Engineers
• Directs prototype mock-ups in tooling and fabrication to ensure accuracy.
• Creates development DVP&R. Ensures the completion of critical testing to complete EV/DV’s as required.
• Supports/Develops Project Costs and Timing Constraints.
• Completes and maintains electronic and hardcopy development project books.
• Maintains awareness of current industry trends.
• Participates in periodic Technology Design Reviews.
• Identifies and Pursues new product concepts for development through Benchmarking activities.
• Assists in the protection and execution of intellectual property. (i.e. Patent Searches, Patent Disclosures)
• Provides ongoing technical support/direction throughout product life cycle to Platform Application Groups
• Perform other duties as required
• Technical Communication and reporting with global team.
• Responsible for optical team management. Including in-external workflow, responsibility, tasks assignment and performance evaluation.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• B.S. Degree in Engineering, four year degree, or equivalent experience
• Professional on optical design, including optical Lens, lightguide, reflector, lighting pipe and other optical components.
• Familiarity with lighting manufacturing processes. Including production tooling, soft tooling and prototype.
• Familiarity with Lighting surface treatment process.
• Hands on mechanical capability
• Advanced computer experience including Catia, LucidShape, Speos, ASAP, and MS Office.
• Advanced mathematics
• Minimum of 10 years directly applicable experience in optical design, product design, testing, and analysis, supervisory experience a plus.
